JustOT is recruiting for an occupational therapist to work with our client based in London . The units provide supported living and residential care for its clients requiring specialist learning disability and mental health support.
The company is committed to delivering individualised care to meet people’s needs. You will work collaboratively with the internal multidisciplinary team to provide a holistic approach to providing the best possible support.

Our client is ambitious about what the individuals in their care can achieve and therefore focus on the Care Pathway, positive goals and the person’s journey onto the least restrictive services.
The OT is responsible for the delivery of effective Occupational Therapy services across multiple sites for adults residing in community rehabilitation units who present with learning disabilities and complex needs.
To contribute to the high standards of person centred care provided , utilising Occupational Therapy skills to effectively assess, treat and provide ongoing evaluation of clients.
The Occupational Therapist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team as an autonomous professional according to the College of Occupational Therapy ‘Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct’ and the ‘Health Professions Council Regulations’.

  1. To receive delegated referrals from Lead OT, independently manage and prioritise that case load.
  2. To work autonomously and independently with access to sessional, clinical supervision.
  3. To devise, implement and evaluate treatment programmes.
  4. To complete comprehensive assessments of clients, using clinical reasoning to select appropriate assessment techniques which lead you to identify the client’s strengths and needs. This will involve seeking and sharing personal and potentially sensitive information with the client.
  5. To agree appropriate and realistic goals for treatment with the client and so produce a comprehensive treatment plan in order to achieve these goals.
  6. To delegate appropriate case load to Occupational Therapy Assistant/s (OTA), helping prioritise and ensure programmes of therapeutic activities are implemented.
  7. To have the ability to work without direct supervision in SEQUENCE CARE GROUP community rehabilitation units delivering client programmes adhering to local and national professional standards whilst keeping the Lead OT informed.
  8. To assist with developing and delivering relevant OT training as part of the internal training programme. To ensure personal training is completed on an annual basis.
  9. To be a proactive member of the multi-disciplinary team and other agencies (e.g. Social services, Voluntary agencies) ensuring that effective communication and liaison takes place at all times.
  10. To be a qualified OT, HCPC registration and membership of the British Association of Occupational Therapists (BAOT).
  11. Relevant experience working as an OT, with LD or in a secure setting.

Communication/Relationship Skills
• To demonstrate good inter-personal skills when managing individuals with complex needs, accounting for any communication difficulties they may present.
• To ensure the client understands and agrees to the treatment plan giving consent to it, in accordance with the current relevant legislation. This will involve using clear information, or pictorial easy read guides.
• To use negotiation and motivation skills in order to engage the client in assessment and intervention.
• To identify changes in clients needs and suggest reasons for this to relevant professionals. To liaise effectively with other health care professionals and external agencies to support the client’s treatment plan.
• To effectively contribute to clinical meetings as directed by Lead OT.
• To accurately record patient information in the ‘person centred files utilising ‘SOAP’ notes.
• To produce timely and accurate patient records and reports for Lead OT, directors and/or professionals as required, in accordance with Health Professions Council and British Association/College of Occupational Therapists regulations.
• To produce a quarterly report to line manager detailing all work with patients and service users.
Personal/Professional Development
• To maintain and demonstrate up to date knowledge and skills relevant to the field of practice.
• To take responsibility for ongoing personal and professional development. To be proactive with preparations towards regular supervision and appraisal with Lead OT.
• To provide clinical and operational supervision to OTA’s.
• To participate in delivering and receiving formal and informal training. To keep up to date with internal training as per yearly schedule maintaining a personal record.
• To demonstrate a high level of skill in developing and delivering training/presentations about OT and relevant topics.
• To assist with the induction of new or less experienced staff/students by demonstrating their own role.
• To work with other colleagues within the relevant area of care, attend relevant meetings and provide support to students on placement as directed by the Lead OT.
• To self-regulate and identify personal competencies and areas of development to ensure safe practice. To identify any additional training needs to Lead OT.
• To contribute to the multi-disciplinary team effort provided wherever possible and appropriate. Including the Clinical Governance Group.
• To further develop knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and policy e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Vulnerable Adult Policy, Valuing People and implications of these to patients/clients and their care.
